Police deploys special strike force to Nigerian state

Xinhua, July 5, 2016 Adjust font size:

The police in Nigeria has deployed 50-member police special strike team to central north Nigeria's Kogi State over incessant crises.

Police chief in charge of the state Usman Yakubu told newsmen in Lokoja, the state capital that the special force was deployed from Police Headquarters in Abuja on Sunday.

He said the team was sent to boost the ongoing clamp down on kidnappers and armed robbers who had held the state and its people to ransom for many months.

Yakubu said members of the special squad had been deployed to different parts of the state.

According to him, the arrival of the team to join forces with their colleagues on ground will go a long way in scaling down kidnapping, armed robbery and other crimes.

The police chief added that he had mapped out strategies to provide maximum security before, during and after the Eid-el-Fitri celebration.

He appealed to members of the public to be more vigilant and be ready to assist the police with useful information. Endit
