PLO slams Israel for building 800 settler homes around Jerusalem

Xinhua, July 4, 2016 Adjust font size:

Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) on Monday condemned the Israeli government's approval of building 800 new housing units in the settlements that surrounds Jerusalem.

Hanan Ashrawi, the PLO executive committee member, said in an emailed press statement that it is "occupation" under international cover.

Earlier on Monday, the Israeli media reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman approved the bill of constructing 800 more housing units in Jerusalem.

Ashrawi said that the recent report of the International Quartet for Middeast Peace "encouraged Israel to do so because it equals the victim with the executioner and ignored all laws and international resolutions."

She called on the international community, including the United Nations, the European Union and the United States to bear their political, legal and moral responsibilities, and to stop their double standards and back the Palestinians rights."

Meanwhile, Saeb Erekat, the PLO secretary General, slammed on Monday the Quartet report for equaling Israel and the Palestinians.

He said the report "was a clear biased to the Israeli occupation," adding 'it has clearly violated the international laws, the road map peace plan, the Arab peace initiative and the signed agreements between Israel and the Palestinians." Endit
