Investigations show the Islamic State (IS) was behind a foiled bombing plot against the Iranian capital Tehran and other cities, the state IRIB TV reported Monday.
The plot received 600,000 euros (667,500 U.S. dollars) from the IS, which ordered preparations that cars be fitted with number plates from Tehran and nearby cities for potential bombing attacks in the capital, the state TV reported, quoting the confessions of one of the detained terrorist suspects.
The state TV said it will broadcast a documentary, titled "In the Depth of Disappointment," on Monday evening to further unearth the details about the foiled bombing plot against Iran.
On June 20, Iran's Intelligence Ministry announced in a statement that it has thwarted "one of the biggest terrorist plots" targeting Tehran and other Iranian cities.
"In the operations by the Intelligence Ministry, the terrorists were detained, with a number of bombs, ready to explode, and a sizeable amount of materials for making bombs seized from the terrorists," the statement said. Endit
