Xi stresses reform on CPC anniversary

Xinhua, July 1, 2016 Adjust font size:

Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, urged Party members to constantly advance reform and opening up on Friday, the 95th founding anniversary of the CPC.

"Reform and opening up is a key choice deciding the fate of modern China," Xi said at a rally marking the occasion.

The general objective of reform is to improve the socialism with Chinese characteristics and modernize and improve governance. The main focus is reform of the economic system, followed by political, cultural, social, environmental and Party building reforms, he said.

Authorities should dare to "conduct surgeries for chronic, stubborn diseases," "break the shelters of vested interests" and "sweep out obstacles hampering development," according to Xi.

He also stressed advancement of the rule of law.

"Any organization and individual must behave within the scope of Constitution and laws, and none should have privilege beyond the Constitution and laws," Xi said. Endi
