Hoffenheim sign Wagner from Darmstadt

Xinhua, July 1, 2016 Adjust font size:

Hoffenheim have signed Sandro Wagner from Darmstadt, the "Kraichgauer" announced in an official statement on Thursday.

The 28-year-old striker reinforce Hoffenheim' s offense after putting pen to paper on a three year deal, stipulated until June 2019.

"Last season Sandro Wagner was behind Thomas Mueller the most prolific German striker in the Bundesliga. That says a lot about his performances. We have signed a strong and charismatic player," Hoffenheim' s director of professional soccer Alexander Rosen said.

Wagner knows the Bundesliga very well as he started his senior career in 2006 at Bayern Munich before he played for Duisburg, Werder Bremen, Kaiserslautern, Berlin and Darmstadt. The striker provided overall 21 goals in 117 top-flight outings.

"I am glad that the transfer to Hoffenheim worked out after intensive negotiations with my former club. Hoffenheim was my desired club. The possibilities and ambitions here have impressed me from the beginning," Germany' s former Under-21 international said.

Hoffenheim avoided the relegation into the second division after completing the last Bundesliga season on the 15th place of the standings. Julian Nagelsmann' s men will kick-off their season against newly promoted RB Leipzig on August 27. Endit
