Greece condemns Istanbul terrorist attack

Greek leaders on Wednesday strongly condemned the terrorist attacks at Istanbul's Ataturk airport that resulted in at least 36 deaths and several injuries.

Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos unequivocally condemned the terrorist attack and conveyed to his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan Greek people's condolences to the families of the victims and to the Turkish people.

"We express our anger at, and our abhorrence and unequivocal condemnation of, the deadly terrorist attacks at Istanbul's airport, which resulted in the tragic deaths of dozens of innocent people," read a statement by the Greek Foreign Ministry.

According to the ministry, there was no indication or information so far that there were Greeks among the fatalities or injured.

About 30 minutes before the blasts, an Aegean Airlines flight had departed from Ataturk airport.

The Greek airliner issued a press release on Wednesday offering date change or refund to travelers who had booked tickets for flights to/from Istanbul until July 6.

Two scheduled flights from Athens to Istanbul and back were cancelled on Wednesday morning.

Aegean Airlines will resume flights to Istanbul as of Wednesday afternoon following the reopening of Ataturk Airport, a company statement said. Endit
