The U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama stressed Tuesday the importance of education for girls in the Moroccan city of Marrakech.
She urged Moroccan teenage girls to keep fighting to stay in school during a meeting with them.
Mrs. Obama, accompanied by her two daughters, Malia and Sasha, arrived earlier Tuesday in Marrakech where she was greeted by Morocco's First Lady Princess Lalla Salma.
With her own teenage daughters joining her, Mrs. Obama pledges to tackle the problem of girls' exclusion from school worldwide, saying "we will emerge together as a group of women to tackle this exclusion."
In connection with the first lady's visit, the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) announced up to 100 million U.S. dollars in funding in Morocco for "Let Girls Learn," an initiative launched by Mrs. Obama and President Barack Obama last year. Endit
