India to send largest ever contingent to Rio Olympics

Xinhua, June 27, 2016 Adjust font size:

India will send its largest ever contingent to the Rio Olympics with 102 participants, said local media Monday.

This number could also increase as there are still few more events to take place before the July 11 deadline for Rio qualification in athletics, in which India will participate in 13 events, said daily The Pioneer.

The previous biggest was in 2012 London Olympics when 83 Indian athletes travelled to the world sports festival.

Indian athletes have performed well this time in track and field qualification competitions to increase the number. Shooting will see 12 Indian athletes, wrestling eight and badminton seven. Endit
