At least 11 people were killed and scores injured in twin car bomb explosions on a hotel in the Somali capital Mogadishu Saturday, police have said.

Mohamed Nor, a police officer at the scene, told Xinhua those killed were mostly civilians who were in the Nasa-Hablod Hotel and some passers-by.

The hotel is located in the capital's central business district and frequented by politicians.

Islamist group Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the attack. The militants, fighting against the Somali government, have stage periodic attacks in Mogadishu. Endit
