African swine fever outbreak declared in Togo

Xinhua, June 26, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Togolese Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock on Friday declared the outbreak of African swine fever after mass dying-off of pigs in areas across the country.

Results of analyses conducted on pig residues, in the central veterinary laboratory of the capital Lome, are positive and lead to confirm the outbreak of the disease, it said in a release that reached Xinhua on Saturday.

The ministry reported that the mass dying-off of pigs has been recorded over the last few days in localities across East-Mono, Binah and Assoli prefectures.

"To stamp out the disease, emergency measures have taken", the release said.

These include the identification of infected farms, the slaughter of contaminated pigs, the disinfection of farms, and restriction on pig divagation.

The authorities essentially decided a three-month ban on pigs and pork products flow in the prefectures reported as affected by the African swine fever virus. Enditem
