Winter warriors relish cold snap bringing snow to eastern Australia

Xinhua, June 24, 2016 Adjust font size:

Winter warriors are relishing in the cold snap hitting the east coast of Australia as the nation's ski resorts get a much needed dump of snow.

A cold front bringing damaging winds, rain and snow to many parts of New South Wales state, including the lower Hunter region and the Blue Mountains, just on the outskirts of Sydney.

Australia's main ski-resorts Perisher and Thredbo in NSW have already had 15 centimetres of now, but a solid dump of 20-40 centimetres is expected over the coming weekend.

But all the wintery fun and games comes with stark warnings for Australian motorists heading to the slopes for the beginning of the school vacation period.

NSW Police are warning there could be transparent ice, or "black ice" on the road, a particular danger for Australian's who aren't used to driving in frigid temperatures. Endit
