Europe to change regardless of Britain's EU referendum outcome

Xinhua, June 24, 2016 Adjust font size:

Europe will be different regardless of the outcome of Britain's referendum on remaining or leaving the European Union (EU), Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said on Thursday.

"We all believe that the decision in the referendum will be positive for the Britain's membership in the European Union. If not, Slovakia as a presiding country will have to face a tough challenge," said Fico.

He added that if Britain leaves the EU, Slovakia will have to adopt unprecedented measures that none of the member states have been obliged to deal with before.

"We may feel that it does not concern us, but it's a huge mistake to think that a UK possible leave from the EU won't affect Slovakia," stressed Fico, adding that the bloc would have to change its budget as well as funds framework.

"It's a lot of money, therefore, we have to be prepared for both alternatives," said Fico. Enditem
