The Dubai branch of the United States information technology consultancy Gartner said on Thursday that healthcare providers in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) will spend 2.78 billion U.S. dollars on IT products and services in 2016, including internal services, software, IT services, data center systems, devices and telecom services.

Gartner said in an e-mailed report that telecom services, which include fixed and mobile telecom services, will remain the largest overall spending category throughout the forecast period within the healthcare providers sector with an expected market size of one billion dollars in 2016.

"IT services spending is estimated to reach 371 million dollars in 2016. Implementation and consulting will be two of largest sub-segment within IT services in 2016," said Moutusi Sau, principal research analyst at Gartner.

"Software spending will have the largest growth by 11.2 percent over last year to reach 438 million dollar in 2016," she said.

Internal services at MENA healthcare providers will grow 4.3 percent in 2016 to be a 519 million dollars market. Internal services refer to salaries and benefits paid to the information services staff of an organization, said the report. Endit
