Rwanda gets 200 mlm Euros from EU for agric dev't

Xinhua, June 23, 2016 Adjust font size:

The European Union (EU) has given Rwanda a 200 million Euros grant to help the country transform agriculture sector and improve rural livelihoods and incomes.

Rwanda and EU officials on Thursday signed the financing agreement paving way for the disbursement of funds that will support the country's efforts towards achieving inclusive agriculture development.

According to the agreement, the grant will support Rwanda government programmes to improve nutrition among rural communities, expand the number of food-secure households, make farmers more efficient in cropping patterns and land use, and extend the irrigation network to cover more households.

Rwanda's agriculture sector contributes 35 percent of GDP of the national economy and most industries depend on agriculture produce. Endit
