Xinhua, June 23, 2016 Adjust font size:

Morocco has stopped more than 30,000 illegal migrants from reaching Spain since 2002, minister said on Wednesday.

At least 10,000 out of the 30,000 attempts to illegally enter Spanish territories were by Moroccan citizens, said Anis Peru, minister in charge of affairs concerning overseas Moroccans and migrations.

He made the remarks during parliament session, and said that illegal immigrants arriving in Spain via Morocco has dropped by 90 percent since 2002.

The authorities have dismantled more than 3,000 criminal networks related to illegal immigration since 2002, he added.

Over the past few years, the country has adopted a strict policy against illegal migrants to Europe via Morocco. Endit
