Burkina Faso's Territorial Administration, Decentralization and Internal Security Minister Simon Compaore on Tuesday announced that a new National Independent Electoral Commission (CENI) will be formed by July 15, 2016.
Compaore who was speaking in Ouagadougou during a meeting with political actors, said the term of current CENI members who were appointed in 2011, was coming to an end.
"We urge the five representatives of the opposition, ruling party and civil society to choose their members so that we can prepare a decree that will be presented to the cabinet, acknowledging the appointment of the members of CENI as well as the commission's president and his deputy," he said.
Late last year, Burkina Faso managed to organize general elections that were considered to have been "peaceful and transparent," hence completely turning the page against the era of Blaise Compaore who was deposed through a popular uprising in October 2014. Endit
