-- The African National Congress (ANC) refused to back down on Thoko Didiza as its mayoral candidate for Tshwane despite violent protests rocking the city again on Tuesday.

Ministers in the justice, crime prevention and security cluster said they were monitoring "hotspots" including Mamelodi, Hammanskraal and Atteridgeville after 19 buses were torched on Monday and other property destroyed, to determine whether the South African National Defence Force should be deployed.
