Zambian capital declared free from cholera

Xinhua, June 21, 2016 Adjust font size:

Health officials in Lusaka, the Zambian capital, on Monday declared the city free from a cholera outbreak which broke out in February this year.

The water-borne disease broke out in February this year with 965 cases and 26 deaths.

Lusaka Province Medical Officer Kennedy Malama said no new cases have been recorded in the past 17 days.

He however said despite no new outbreaks recorded, health officials were still on the ground to provide health talks to affected communities.

The disease broke out in three highly populated compounds in the city.

The Ministry of Health, he said, started administering oral cholera vaccines in various parts of the city to mitigate any possible outbreaks. Endit
