Botswana beat Namibia on penalties

Xinhua, June 19, 2016 Adjust font size:

Botswana beat Namibia on penalties by 5-4 after the two sides drew 1-1 in 120 minutes in the 2016 Castle Cosafa Cup quarterfinal match played at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Namibian capital Windhoek Saturday.

Botswana will meet South Africa in the semifinals.

The defending champions Namibia managed to hold 0-0 before the half-time and 1-1 at full time.

Namibian President Hage Geingob, who is an ardent soccer fan, was one of hundreds of fans who turned up to support the Namibian team.

The match organizers had to open the gates to allow fans who had not bought tickets on time to enter free to avoid a stampede.

Botswana flew in Windhoek Friday after refusing to play over unpaid wages about two weeks ago, when they were beaten 2-1 by Uganda in the Nations Cup qualifications match. Endit
