A 37-year-old woman threw herself from a bridge into the river holding her son on Friday, local media reported.

Her six-year-old is still missing and searches are being undertaken in the Cavado river in Barcelos, 370 km from Lisbon, by a dive team.

The mother, who is divorced and has been living with her current partner and father of her two children, was found alive by a local amateur fisherman.

She was found with signs of hypothermia and was taken to Braga hospital, according to local media reports.

The police are investing the case and it is possible that she could be charged with murder.

The woman, who works at a pastry shop, was going through a depressive phase, according to reports. Endit
