Germany's benchmark DAX index advances

The benchmark DAX index at Frankfurt Stock Exchange on Friday advanced and closed at 9,631.36 points.

Despite the the upcoming referendum on United Kingdom's membership in the European Union, investors became more optimistic and the blue-chip DAX index gained 80.89 points, or 0.85 percent.

Deutsche Bank topped the list of risers with an increase of 5.23 percent. Commerzbank advanced by 4.36 percent. The utilities company RWE added 4.02 percent. Thyssenkrupp climbed by 3.61 percent. The semiconductor producer Infineon Technologies went up by 3.11 percent.

On the other hand, Henkel, a laundry, home care and beauty care company, dropped by 1.17 percent. Beiersdorf, a personal care company, fell by 1 percent. Deutsche Telekom lost 0.73 percent. BASF slipped by 0.49 percent. Vonovia, a real estate company, went down by 0.42 percent.

Siemens was the most traded share of the day with a turnover of 487.1 million euros (around 547.2 million U.S. dollars). Endit
