Nairobi bourse weekly turnover falls 31 pct

Turnover of the Nairobi Securities Exchange this week fell to 40 million U.S. dollars, down 31 percent compared to the previous trading week.

Kenya's leading telecom Safaricom, whose share price hit a high of 0.19 dollars, was the week's biggest mover with 57 million shares changing hands, accounting for 39 percent of the week's traded volume.

The banking sector had 34 million shares traded during the week, which accounted for 24 percent of the week's traded volume.

The drop in trading saw the NSE 20 Share Index go down 49.10 points during the week to stand at 3,784.32 at trade close on Friday, while the All Share Index shed 0.47 points during the week to settle at 147.44 points and the NSE 25 Share Index lost 21.61 points during the week to settle at 4143.62 points.

The bond market witnessed a downswing in activity with bonds worth 93 million dollars transacted compared 187 million dollars posted the previous week. Endit
