Toxic running track removed from Beijing primary school

Xinhua, June 17, 2016 Adjust font size:

A Beijing primary school has removed a synthetic racetrack after toxic substances allegedly poisoned dozens of students, local authorities confirmed on Friday.

Xinhua reporters saw two excavators working at the Baiyunlu campus of Beijing No. 2 Experimental School in Xicheng District. The project is scheduled to be completed this Sunday.

Students had a day off Friday, and will be back next Monday.

Last month many students at the school suffered from nosebleeds, dizzy spells and coughs after running on the track.

Although official test result showed that the track was up to standard for use, many people questioned it and investigators admitted to the existence of pungent smell.

Similar cases have occurred in other provinces. Endi
