Road accident claims four lives in SW Tanzania

Xinhua, June 17, 2016 Adjust font size:

Four people were killed when a minibus they were travelling in collided head-on with a lorry in southwestern Tanzania, police said Friday.

Songwe Regional Police Commander, Mathius Nyange told Xinhua in a telephone interview that the minibus was travelling to the Tanzania-Zambia border town of Tunduma before colliding with a lorry along the busiest Tanzania-Zambia highway (Tanzam).

He said that loaded with cereal crops, the lorry was heading to Mbeya City.

According to the regional police chief, the accident occurred on Thursday night at around 10 p.m. local time in Mbozi District, killing the four people, who were in the minibus.

Police have launched a manhunt exercise to arrest the driver of the lorry who managed to escape soon after the accident.

The RPC said that urged motorists using the Tanzam road to be careful when driving on the road because of many sharp corners.

Tanzam highway is one of the roads in Tanzania which are accidents' hotbeds due to its sharp corners and narrowness. Endit
