Mexico to host OAS General Assembly in 2017

Xinhua, June 17, 2016 Adjust font size:

Mexico was chosen as the host for the 47th General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS) in 2017, the government said on Thursday.

The Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the decision was made during the 46th OAS meeting in the Dominican Republic.

"The General Assembly will continue the strategic vision of the Organization and its renewal," it said in a press release.

This will be the first time the OAS holds its annual meeting in Mexico, which was a founding member of the organization.

The country has contributed to the consolidation of the Americas in terms of international law, conflict resolution, international cooperation on development and security, according to the ministry.

The OAS was created as a dialogue and cooperation forum in 1948 after the Pact of Bogota. Endit
