1st LD: Gravitational waves detected for a second time: scientists

Four months after the historic first-ever detection of gravitational waves, scientists said Wednesday they have detected another gravitational waves washing over the Earth.

The gravitational waves, ripples in the fabric of spacetime, were observed on Dec. 26, 2015, at 03:38:53 UTC, for the second time, scientists said at a press conference during the American Astronomical Society conference in San Diego, California.

The first detection of gravitational waves, announced on Feb. 11, 2016, was a milestone in physics and astronomy. It confirmed a major prediction of Albert Einstein's 1915 general theory of relativity and marked the beginning of the new field of gravitational wave astronomy. Endit
