Xinhua, June 15, 2016 Adjust font size:

Macedonian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Zoran Stavreski resigned his post on Tuesday citing "health problems."

"The health problems that I face and the advices of my doctors show me the necessity of an extended medical treatment and recuperation period, so I will not be in a position to perform the duties of a finance minister and a deputy prime minister," Stavreski said in a written statement.

He gave no further details about his medical condition that forced him to resign.

Macedonian government spokesperson Aleksandar Gjorgjiev says that the reasons for Stavreski's resignation should be understood and respected.

"The government would like to express its gratitude to Stavreski for his work, dedication and his contribution for the realization of the government measures, programs and politics with outstanding results," Gjorgjiev said.

Current Macedonian Prime Minister Emil Dimitriev proposed Stavreski be replaced by the director of the Public Revenue Office Kiril Minovski. His as the new finance minister is scheduled for a Parliament session on Wednesday.

Dimitirev will also discharge the current Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dragana Kirpijanovska and appoint the current Macedonian Ambassador to China Ilija Isajlovski at the post.

Stavreski was in the Macedonian government since 2006, first as a deputy prime minister in charge of financial issues and later as a finance minister as well. Enditem
