Syria's local TV stations cited news outlets close to the Islamic State (IS) group as declaring the death of the terror group's leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

The pro-government Sama TV and al-Ekhbariya cited what they called news outlets affiliated with the IS as saying that al-Baghdadi was killed, without elaboration. (Syria-1st LD)

ANKARA -- Five Islamic State (IS) militants were killed on Monday in shelling in northern Syria by the Turkish army and air operations from the U.S.-led coalition, security sources told Dogan News Agency on Tuesday.

The move came after the Turkish target acquisition systems detected 13 IS targets preparing an attack on Turkey from Syrian side, security sources said. (Turkey-IS)

KABUL -- A total of 117 militants were killed amid military operations launched by Afghan security forces within the last 24 hours, the country's Defense Ministry said on Tuesday.

"Afghan security and defense forces conducted several military and cleanup operations over the past 24 hours, killing 117 militants, wounding 50 and detaining two other militants," the ministry said in a statement providing daily operational updates. (Afghanistan-Militants)

PARIS -- French President Francois Hollande on Tuesday called the killing of a senior police officer and his partner by a man who pledged allegiance to the Islamic State (IS) an "incontestably terrorist act."

French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve also said earlier Tuesday that the killing was "an abject terrorist act." (France-Policeman Killing-President)

HANOI -- A Russia-made SU-30 fighter jet of the Vietnam air forces went missing on a training mission offshore in Vietnam's central Nghe An province Tuesday morning. Joint search efforts are underway, a local official told Xinhua.

Huynh Thanh Dien, vice chairman of Nghe An provincial people's committee, said over phone that "As soon as learning about the information on Tuesday morning, the province has instructed coordination of provincial military command, border guard, department of agriculture and rural development, search and rescue force, fishermen, Military Zone 4, and navy to deploy ships and boats to carry out the search and rescue mission."
