Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on Tuesday issued an order instructing the military to implement search and rescue mission for a fighter jet which went missing earlier in the day.
The Russian-made SU-30 fighter jet of Vietnam air forces disappeared from radar screen while carrying out a training mission offshore Vietnam's central Nghe An province on Tuesday morning.
There were two pilots aboard the jet - Tran Quang Khai, chief of staff of Regiment 923, and Nguyen Huu Cuong, flight lieutenant.
The jet took off Tuesday morning from Sao Vang airport in Vietnam's central Thanh Hoa province, some 140 km south of capital Hanoi, for training.
In the statement which was posted on the official website of Vietnamese government on Tuesday afternoon, Phuc ordered the Ministry of Defense (MoD) to focus its efforts in seeking all measures and mobilizing forces and vehicles to search and rescue the missing pilots and plane.
The Vietnamese cabinet chief urged to investigate and verify the cause of the case as well as review all procedures in the work of flying direction and management in order to avoid similar incidents from happening.
Phuc also urged the National Committee for Search and Rescue, people's committees of central Nghe An and Thanh Hoa provinces as well as relevant ministries to coordinate with the MoD to implement search and rescue mission. Endit
