The publicity chief of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Monday called for better development of the country's folk literature and art.

Liu Qibao, head of Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, stressed saving folk cultural heritages, protecting ancient villages and other related work while addressing a meeting of the Chinese Folk Literature and Art Association.

Calling folk literature and art a treasure and symbol of the Chinese culture, Liu called for producing more folk literary and artistic works that promote the good and positive.

Urging folk writers and artists to work in a down-to-earth manner, Liu said that folk literature and art should be made part of the people's life.

He also highlighted the protection of inheritors of folk literature and art, as well as the training of young talents. Endi
