A delegation from Nanjing, capital city of east China's Jiangsu Province, began a visit to Namibian capital Windhoek Monday in a move to promote cultural exchange and tourism cooperation.
The visit marked the first of its kind since the two cities of Nanjing and Windhoek inked a Memorandum of Friendship and Cooperation in June last year.
The Nanjing delegation was led by Vice Mayor Liu Yi'an, who was also accompanied by a 6-member artist team from Nanjing who took part in a joint painting exhibition.
The painting exhibition presented around 30 pictures drawn by famous Chinese painters, depicting Africa in their eyes and the event is also expected to show pictures drawn by African artists.
"The painting exhibition marks a milestone achievement in our friendship, demonstrating our eagerness and commitment to the agreed areas of cooperation, in particular cultural exchange and people -to-people relations," said Fransina Kahungu, Deputy Mayor of Windhoek at the opening of the exhibition.
"We hope this exhibition will bring more cultural understanding between the two cities," Liu said
Liu added that they will also send an entrepreneurial delegation to discuss and focus on business cooperation, so as to foster more opportunities between the two cities later this year.
The Chinese delegation will also meet with representatives of the City of Windhoek on Tuesday, to discuss economic cooperation, cultural exchanges, training and development.
During this engagement, the Chinese delegation will donate solar powered lights to the City of Windhoek, for onward distribution to residents. Endit
