Equity turnover at the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) went down 39 percent Monday to 4 million U.S. dollars on a volume of 9 million shares, down from 6.6 million dollars from 22 million shares last Friday as foreign investors kept off the bourse.

Kenya's leading telecom Safaricom, which attracted foreign buys and was the top mover last week hitting a high of 21 million shares, traded a paltry 2.1 million shares at 0.18 dollars (0.5 percent decline), down from 6.7 million.

Equity Group Holdings was the second top trader, with the bank trading 1.7 million shares, an increase from 400,000 last week on Friday at an unchanged price of 0.40 dollars.

Save for Safaricom and Equity Group, which had the most foreign buys, none of the other stocks moved more than a million shares.

The NSE 20 Share Index closed the day 0.41 percent down at 3,817.66 points. Similarly, the All Share Index slid to 146.25 from 146.97 while the NSE 25 Share Index settled at 4,143.08 from 4,165.23 points.
