UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Friday condemned the Thursday attack on Ethiopian troops at an African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) base in Halgan, Somalia, and called on the Horn of African country to "remain resolute in the fight against Al Shabaab and extremism."
The secretary-general "expresses his condolences to the families of those killed and wishes a speedy recovery for the injured soldiers," said a statement issued by Ban's spokesman. (UN-Somalia)

BRUSSELS -- The European Commission presented a proposal for the European Union (EU) to ratify the Paris climate agreement, the world's first universal, legally binding deal to tackle climate change on Friday.
In line with the 2030 climate and energy framework agreed by EU leaders in October 2014, the Commission intends to propose in the coming months the member state targets to reduce emissions in those sectors not covered by the Emissions Trading System (ETC), such as transport, agriculture and buildings. BUCHAREST -- Romania's Social Democrats won 52.63 percent of mayoralties and also the largest number of elected seats in county and local councils, showed the final results released late Friday by the Central Electoral Bureau.
According to the final results of last Sunday's elections, Social Democrats'candidates won 1,677 mayoral races, as well as 579 seats, or 40.32 percent, in county councils and 16,648 positions, or 41.39 percent, in local councils. (Romania-Local elections-Final results)

BOGOTA -- At least eight workers died, four injured and over 30 more are missing in a landslide that occurred in northwestern Colombia on Thursday night, the country's office for disaster management (UNGRD) said Friday.
The workers were building a highway along the Medellin-Quibdo road in the northwestern state of Choco when the landslide caused by intense rains in recent days tore through a section of the roadway, UNGRD said. (Colombia-Landslide-Deaths) Endi
