Darmstadt appoint Norbert Meier as new coach

Xinhua, June 11, 2016 Adjust font size:

Darmstadt have appointed Norbert Meier as their new head coach, the Bundesliga team announced on Friday.

The 57-year-old coach is the successor of Dirk Schuster, who joined Augsburg this summer. Meier has agreed on a two-year deal and will stay with the "Lilien" until June 2018.

"We are pleased to have signed with Norbert Meier as head coach who perfectly corresponds to our requirements profile. We are convinced that Norbert Meier' s experience, expertise and personality fits very well to Darmstadt," president Ruediger Fritsch said.

Meier coached already a number of German clubs, among others, Fortuna Dusseldorf and Arminia Bielefeld. He was also part of Germany' s national team from 1982 until 1985 where he provided two goals in 16 caps.

Newly promoted Darmstadt completed the Bundesliga season 2015-2016 on the 14th position, ensuring another year in Germany' s top flight. Endit
