France's industrial output up 1.2 pct in April

Xinhua, June 10, 2016 Adjust font size:

A strong recovery of transport equipment activity helped France strengthen its industrial production in April, data released by the French national statistics bureau Insee showed Friday.

Industrial production in the country rebounded by 1.2 percent in April after it had fallen by 0.4 percent a month earlier.

Manufacturing businesses reported a 1.3-percent growth. Transport equipment production was up by 3.8 percent from the 0.5 percent decline in March while that of electrical and electronic activity rose by 1.1 in April after declining by 2.0 percent the month prior.

Meanwhile, the mining and energy sector recorded a slow-down in growth of 0.5 percent over the period after it had jumped by 3.7 percent in March.

As for the food processing business, the sector showed a negative performance with a decrease of 0.5 percent in the month, the report said.

Over the past three months, output of France's industrial sector has lost 0.6 and manufacturing production was also down by 1.2 percent, it showed.

Facing a sluggish industrial sector, the French government wants to inject fresh blood into the wan domestic manufacturing business by focusing on new technologies and innovative sectors, including electric planes and cars, and a new generation of high-speed trains. Endit
