Albanian police chief suspended over wiretapping scandal

Xinhua, June 8, 2016 Adjust font size:

Albania's police chief has been suspended for suspected involvement in a police wiretapping scandal, officials said Tuesday.

Haki Cako is being investigated after the police were found to have been using wiretapping equipment for illicit surveillance, the Albanian General Prosecutor's Office said.

Two other officials are also been investigated.

Cako argued that the device was brought to Albania by the Italian authorities for training purposes and was not used for wiretapping.

Albanian media said the Italian mission in Albania is not being investigated, and Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama even apologized to the Italian government for being involved. Endi
