Xinhua, June 8, 2016 Adjust font size:

A high-level sports delegation from Cuba's National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER), led by its president Antonio Becali, left Tuesday for a tour of the United States, the Foreign Ministry announced.

Over six days, the Cuban sports executives will meet with various American institutions in order to develop relations between the two countries' sports sectors.

The Cuban representatives will teach their U.S. counterparts about the priorities of the unique Cuban sporting model and how the government sees it as a pillar of public health promotion, said the press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The delegation was invited by the Hibernian Celtic Athletic Fund, from the city of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania, and is made up of INDER members and diplomats from the Cuban embassy in Washington DC.

According to the press release, the group will also visit Washington D.C., where it will meet with the President's Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition, which is in charge of encouraging healthy physical activity and nutrition among children.

They will also tour U.S. sports facilities and meet with athletes in sports popular in Cuba, such as baseball and boxing. Enditem
