Gabon's National Autonomous and Permanent Electoral Commission (CENAP) announced on Monday that the country's presidential elections will be held on Aug. 27, 2016.

"The presidential elections will be held on Aug. 27, 2016," the commission's president Rene Aboghe Ella said after a plenary session of CENAP, which he chaired at the institution's headquarters in Libreville.

Ella said the deadline for submission of nomination documents will be July 12 at 6 p.m. (local time).

Each candidate will have to pay a fee of 33,000 U.S. dollars which should be paid while submitting the nomination papers.

Over ten people have declared their candidature, including incumbent President Ali Bongo Ondimba, the former African Union Commission chairman Jean Ping, ex-Speaker of parliament Guy Nzouba Ndama and ex-prime minister Casimir Oye Mba. Endit
