U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton on Monday reached the number of 2,383 delegates needed to become the first-ever female nominee of a major political party in the United States, according to the latest AP delegate count.

The former first lady and secretary of state garnered 1,812 pledged delegates won in primaries and caucuses, plus the public support of 571 superdelegates, unpledged Democratic party leaders who are free to vote for any candidate at the national convention, the AP reported.
