A total of 12,100 juvenile convictions were registered in Switzerland last year, down 2 percent from 2014, the country's Federal Statistical Office (FSO) reported Monday.
"The general decline of 2 percent in juvenile convictions for 2015 is due solely to falling numbers in offences under the Swiss Criminal Code (down 12 percent), which includes property offences," FSO explained in a statement.
"An increase has been seen for all other laws taken into account in the juvenile conviction statistics: road traffic act (up 5 percent), foreign nationals act (plus 39 percent), trafficking in narcotic substances (plus 15 percent) and consumption of narcotic substances (plus 4 percent)," it added.
A total of 36 percent of those convicted by authorities were condemned to unconditional community service, while only 7 percent were detained.
According to statistics, most verdicts were handed out as a result of the consumption of narcotic substances (42 percent of convictions) or property offences, such as theft or vandalism, which accounted for 31 percent of all sentences. Endit
