1st LD: 2 killed in militant attack on provincial court office in Afghanistan

Xinhua, June 5, 2016 Adjust font size:

Two gunmen were killed after militants stormed a provincial court office in Afghanistan's eastern province of Logar on Sunday, sources said.

The attack took place at around 11:00 a.m. local time in provincial capital Pul-e-Alam city. The security forces launched a counter-attack and shot dead two attackers shortly after the gun firing, a provincial security source told Xinhua.

"The clash is still going on, we have no more details so far, but there is fear of casualties," he said.

Government troops cordoned off the area for precautionary measures.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but the Taliban insurgent group routinely claims responsibility for such attacks.

On Wednesday, five people, including four civilians, were killed after four Taliban militants attacked a local court office in neighboring Ghazni province. Enditem
