China's box office on Children's Day hits 22.4 mln U.S. dollars

Box office takings on International Children's Day on June 1 increased five percent from the previous year to reach 147 million yuan (about 22.4 million U.S. dollars).

"The Angry Birds Movie" was the top choice for movie-goers, grossing 63.7 million yuan on the recording day, according to China Film News.

"Alice Through the Looking Glass" was a respectable number two, generating 55.1 million yuan.

Super hero blockbuster "Captain America: Civil War" landed in third, reaping 9.5 million yuan.
