Three out of four men from Syria planning to launch a terrorist attack in Germany on behalf of the Islamic State (IS) were arrested on Thursday, German media Spiegel Online reported.

According to the report, the attack was supposed to have taken place in the old town of the western German city of Dusseldorf. The alleged plan had been that after two suicide bombers had blown themselves up near an avenue in the center of Dusseldorf, more terrorists would use guns to shoot people. (Germany-IS Attack)

PARIS -- With no sign of an end to the standoff between the French government and trade unions over labor reform, traffic in France was affected by a railway strike which entered its second day on Thursday.

Fifteen percent of the country's railway workers stopped work, meaning four regional trains out of 10 were running and 30 percent of inter-city links were operational, the state-run railway company SNCF said. (France-Labor Reform)

RAMALLAH -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Thursday called on the international community to back the French initiative aimed at holding a peace conference to end conflicts in the region.

Abbas said it is important to break the impasse, after meeting Finnish Foreign Minister Timo Soini in the West Bank city of Ramallah, according to the official Palestinian news agency WAFA. (Palestine-French Initiative)

MOGADISHU -- Africa Union (AU)'s top envoy for Somalia on Thursday condemned the terrorist attack on hotel in Mogadishu on Wednesday, in which more than 10 people were killed and over 20 others wounded, including two lawmakers.

The Special Representative of the Chairperson of the AU Commission (SRCC) for Somalia, Francisco Madeira said the latest attack on Ambassador Hotel will not deter the international community's efforts in stabilizing Somalia. (AU-Somalia-Condemnation)

DAMASCUS -- At least two people were killed and many more wounded when an explosion rocked Syria's coastal city of Latakia on Thursday, local media said.

The blast was carried out by a booby-trapped motorcycle that went off at the entrance of the al-Datur neighborhood in Latakia, near a mosque, said Sham FM radio and the national Syrian TV. (Syria-Explosion) Endi
