Flood kills five people in S Germany

Five people have been confirmed dead after flood swept the southern German state of Bavaria, local police reported on Thursday.

Four women were confirmed dead late Wednesday night in the district of Rottal-Inn while the fifth victim was found at noon on Thursday, according to a statement of Bavarian police.

It adds there are still a number of people went missing.

More than a dozen pupils, who were trapped in a school and had to stay there overnight on Wednesday, have been allowed to go home.

According to local fire brigade, the priority of their mission now is to search for the missing and it will take a few days before the water and power supply return to normal.

At the moment, more than 100 personnel from police, fire brigade and emergency department and more than 2,000 volunteers are helping with the rescue and relief operations.

Local officials predict more rains in the next few days. Endit
