1st LD Writethru: Fire engulfs landmark building in south Mumbai

Xinhua, June 2, 2016 Adjust font size:

A major fire broke out at a multi-storeyed landmark building in south Mumbai Thursday, engulfing its upper floors.

However, there have been no reports of any casualty yet, a senior fire official said.

"The fire broke out in the building near Regal Cinema on Colaba Causeway, a busy commercial street. Two people have been evacuated by firefighters," he said.

More than 12 fire tenders have been pressed into service to douse the flames, he said, on condition of anonymity.

Local TV channels showed footage of dark smoke billowing out of the multi-storey building in the area that has both shops and homes.

A probe has been ordered into the incident, the official added. Endit
