Russia's reserves dropped 13.4 pct in May

Xinhua, June 2, 2016 Adjust font size:

Russia's reserve funds in May plunged 13.4 percent month on month to 2,551 trillion rubles (38,6 billion U.S. dollars), said the Russian Ministry of Finance on Thursday.

Russia's sovereign wealth fund reached 4,823 trillion rubles (72.9 billion dollars) in May, up 1.5 percent compared with the previous month, according to the ministry.

However, in U.S. dollars, the sovereign wealth fund declined by 870 million dollars due to the foreign currency exchange rate. According to the Russian Central Bank, the U.S. dollar to Russian ruble currency exchange rate rose by 1.6 Russian rubles in the last two months.

The Russia's reserve fund is a part of the federal budget assets to ensure financing of federal budget expenses and maintaining a federal budget balance in case oil and gas revenues decline. Endi
