Haishan Group International, one of the largest Chinese construction companies operating in Angola, on Wednesday donated gifts to pupils at the No. 2059 primary school in southern Luanda to mark the international children's day.

Haishan sent two trucks of toys, rice, instant noodles, cooking oil, mineral waters to the 350 pupils studying at the school, mostly from impoverished and needy families of the neighboring Belas district.

Attending the hand-over ceremony, Deputy mayor of Belas Maria Manuela Ferraz thanked Haishan for shouldering social responsibilities and paying back to the Angolan society as well as celebrating the international children's day with local pupils.

Haishan's President Zheng Gang said his company would donate more money in the coming months to revamp the school campus and build new classrooms and domitories for the pupils and teachers.

He said Haishan would also establish 100 scholarships to encourage the pupils to study hard at the school.

Haishan landed in Angola in 2006 when the post-war reconstruction began in earnest and large scale in the African country. Endit
