Abu Dhabi Police said Wednesday they confiscated 38.8 kilograms of hashish encased in coffee packages, reported Abu Dhabi's daily, The National.
The drugs were found hidden in the trunk of a vehicle belonging to a 24-year-old Arab man and his female Arab companion of the same age, said the report.
The suspects were driving around the United Arab Emirates (UAE) capital, according to Abu Dhabi.
The man was placed under surveillance some time ago by antinarcotics teams after investigations revealed he possessed drugs, said Colonel Sultan Al-Darmaki, head of Abu Dhabi Police's antinarcotics department.
Police said in addition to the 38.8kg of hashish found in the car boot, they also uncovered "pills and joints in addition to other suspicious materials utilized for drug use," said the report.
The report added that once arrested the male suspect confessed to ownership of the confiscated material whilst his female companion confessed her knowledge that her male companion abused drugs, quoting Abu Dhabi police.
Both suspects as well as the confiscated illegal items were subsequently referred to the relevant authorities for further investigation.
