Eurasia can expand influence through stronger ties with EU, SCO, ASEAN

Xinhua, May 31, 2016 Adjust font size:

Kazakhstan's President said on Tuesday that the Eurasian Economic Union should improve its influence by developing economic ties with other international organizations, according to local reports.

Nursultan Nazarbayev said that the EAEU should team with the European Union, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) during a Eurasian economic meeting in the Kazakh capital Astana.

"Today, we discussed a narrow range of issues and are working on cooperation with China, India, Israel, Egypt, Iran, Cambodia and many other countries. Separately we are considering the possibility of establishing trade and economic relations with the EAEC integration organizations such as the EU, SCO, ASEAN and others," the Kazakh president said.

Nazarbayev said the EAEU should be fully integrated into the world economy and serve as a bridge connecting Europe and Asia.

The EAEC meeting will also discuss the prospects for deeper integration within the EAEU, including the creation of a single market for gas, oil and oil products within the Union.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan and Nazarbayev attended the regional meeting. Endi
