Reigning champion Intanon toppled at Indonesia Open

Defending champion Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand suffered an upset as she bowed out of the Indonesia Open here on Tuesday.

The second seed Intanon was beaten by China's Sun Yu in the second round 21-15 and 21-18 in 45 minutes.

In the mixed doubles, defending champions Xu Chen/Ma Jin of China beat Indonesian Hafiz Faisal/Shella Devi Aulia 21-16, 21-16 in less than half an hour.

However, non-seeded He Bingjiao of China prevailed over Japanese Minatsu Mitani 21-16, 17-21 and 21-12 in the women's singles.

Indonesian veteran Markis Kido/Pia Zebadiah Bernadet lost to Chinese non-seeded Liu Yuchen/Tang Jinhua 21-19, 21-19 in the mixed doubles.

In the women's singles, Indian Saina Nehwal downed Pai Yu Po of Chinese Taipei in three games 21-11, 19-21 and 21-15, while top seed Spaniard Carolina Marin had an easy victory over an Indonesian non-seeded player 21-18 and 21-11.

Indonesian non-seeded Alfian Eko Prasetyo/Annisa Saufika surprised the audience by beating No. 7 Chris Adcock/Gabrielle Adcock of Britain 24-21, 18-21 and 21-16. Endit
